Nama Jabulani pada bola ini diambil dari bahasa Zulu yang merupakan salah satu bahasa daerah di Afrika Selatan yang artinya merayakan.

Afrika Selatan adalah negara yang memiliki 11 bahasa, dan 11 suku maka dibutlah bola jabulani ini dengan 11 warna yang mencolok itu menandakan semangat dari Afrika Selatan dalam menyambut piala dunia 2010 ini.

sedangkan motif dari bola jabulani ini terinspirasi dari salah satu bentuk stadion di Johannesburg kota di Afrika Selatan.
